Domestic violence does not discriminate against race, culture, religion, or even economic status. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S, and the Muslim commuity is not immune to this.
We have failed to approach victims of domestic violence in the appropriate way, often encouraging them to have sabr (patience) instead of fighting for justice against oppression.
I have partnered with MAUSA to help support safe spaces and transitional homes for victims of abuse. My hope and du’a is that these spaces allow both women and children who have suffered from abuse to find healing, strength, and growth.
