New Best Thermal Paste? Thermalright TFX – Review \u0026 Comparison

Within the last one year or so, Thermalright released many new highend thermal pastes to the market, offering very good thermal performance atleast on paper. 14.3W/mk for the TFX attracted my eye, so I decided to test the TFX out of pure interest myself, eventhough the paste ended up being very expensive.
I tested the TFX against Kingpincooling KPx and the finetuned Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Liquid Helium Edition on my delidded 9900K R0 stepping, between the die and the water block in a direct die cooling situation. I used the same frequency and voltage profile pretty much as on my previous highend thermal paste comparison video.
End result was quite as I expected, the TFX is a few degrees behind both the KPx and Kryonaut when compared between the die and the water block. I think this testing method shows a bit more differences between different thermal pastes than when compared on top of the IHS, as the target area is much smaller. Ambient temperature was measured with Ktype thermometer and it was constantly around 22.523.0 degrees at the end of each test. I tested every paste in Prime95 26.6 in small FFT mode for around 15 minutes, the TFX I tested twice to doublecheck the difference.
So far KPx remains the leader in performance when it comes to testing on water. The result of KPx and Kryonaut LHE are within the margin of error, so it is very hard to pick a clear winner out of the two. The TFX is fairly dry compared to other pastes like KPx, so I will give it a try on 7970 or 2080 ti on ln2 and see if it can survive the common cracking issue.

Testing Procedure:
1. Clean CPU and Cooler surfaces
2. Apply thermal paste per manufacturer’s instructions
3. Set CPU fan speed to 100%
4. Bring testing room temp to 73°F/23°C
5. Run AIDA64 for 1hr at 100% CPU Load
6. Repeat test two more times and average temps per mode
7. Remove Cooler and inspect paste coverage
8. Reapply and repeat testing if paste coverage was unsatisfactory

Thermalright TFX + Odyssey – Making the 5950X and 3090 RTX Even Cooler!


Today’s highend PC components require a lot of cooling! Before getting into heavy overclocking we need to ensure that our components can dissipate as much heat as possible.
For this video I will be upgrading the thermal compound on my AMD Ryzen 9 5950X as well as on the ASUS Strix 3090 RTX OC with Thermalright TFX. I will also replace the thermal pads for all of the hottest components on the 3090 with the Thermalright Odyssey Extreme thermal pads.
I was impressed by the results, even if the compound is harder to use!
