Okay, maybe I need to explain a bit more about recruit process here in Korea.
Most of major companies conduct job recruiting twice per a year mostly September and January. This is basically targeting college graduating students, not career employee. The number of major companies are limited (maybe 50 on top?), but the number of college graduating students are waaay too many (about 500,000 people)
I think, in many other countries, many of college graduating students start from internship, but not in Korea, they got to have a fulltime position in this annual recruiting season.
This is why each major company has standard format job application which applicants download from their website during this season, and we have to pass this document examination which is mostly more than 1:50 competition.
Most of job application format require us to attach profile photos, which I don’t like to do, but they never throw away job application because of applicants’ appearance.
In my case (4 yrs ago), I didn’t like to take a lot care of profile photo, so I just took it at the subway, I just wear casual neat shirt, but I didn’t have any issues to pass big companies such as Samsung, LG, SK because I am pretty sure I wrote my resume pretty distinguishable with unique experience.
That’s why I’d like to say, \”Ugly person never get a job in Korea\” is not true, if it is, Samsung building must be full of Son Ye Jin, but it is not.
Some companies might judge applicant’s attitude based on photo like \”Did they do the research before taking this photo?\”, to judge how seriously job applicants take this fulltime job opportunity.
Because, there is a standard guideline even in taking a picture, and they like job applicants who know how to keep the rule especially financial company, service providing company they take this quite seriously.
This is why Get it Beauty takes this theme for job applicants, especially inviting an executive director from HR department, to let them know, \”this is the guideline, you will be better if you do like this.\”
Anyway, I also oppose to attach photo to job application, because there is possibility which company can reject job based on appearance I don’t deny that, which myself and none of my friends haven’t experienced so far (honestly, girls who do the plastic surgery because of job application are all idiots companies hate them because they’re stupid), but still I hate to leave that option to company side.
I just want to explain more about our situation in Korea, because it seems some of you might simplify our situation kind of too much just because they take care of appearance for job application, does not mean that companies discriminate applicants by their looks.
This is because they are so desperate for having a fulltime job, they want to do whatever they can do, even they want to do their best to their appearance.
Okay that was waay too long explanation than I thought!
